Ahhhh! That ending! I am in love all over again with this series. Kage you are a boss! I loved that last chapter so much! There is no way that I can see it as the ending when really it was an epic beginning!Now, there were some parts that were totally sad to read. I cannot imagine what Kage must have felt, about everything he went through in life. He is such a strong man to be able to just keep living and doing what he loves (including Jamie lol) to know he was manipulated so badly by his uncle was surreal. How could a man be so horrible to his nephew? To control him in every aspect, to try and force him to live a life of unhappiness just because it didn't fit with his plan was sickening. I was so glad when he was out of the picture.Jamie as always was so adorable, I was happy to read how comfortable he was with Kage now that they were finally reunited how they were supposed to be. Daddy Atwood still takes the cake as my favourite family member. And I was so happy to read that Daddy Atwood gave Kage the "talk" .... Sigh how adorable.Now I just want to read about them all married with kids, or dogs or even gold fish. Their lives are really only now beginning and I am so happy for them. At the end of this book, it definitely put a smile on my face (after the roller coaster of emotions that is lol) I loved it. 5 beautiful stars!
Audiobook Review:I am writing this review after listening to all three books in this series. Be aware, this is one long story broken up into three books. I really enjoyed Kage and Jamie's story, although I did not always like Kage. He is by no means a warm and fluffy MC; but he does have his moments of vulnerability. I have to say he reminds a lot of Sam Kage in Mary Calmes' Matter of Time series. He is a dominant, alpha male and doesn't always treat Jamie very well. Jamie, who doesn't even know he could be attracted to men until he meets Kage, is a natural submissive and enjoys Kage's rough sex and dirty talk. They are very hot together and the romance is a roller coaster ride of angst, miscommunication, danger and hurt on both sides and moments of tenderness and love. Jamie also has a few TSTL moments; which really drive me crazy at points.Kage has PTSD from a childhood trauma which is revealed until the 3rd book and brings out his very "dark side". Kage is also trying to make it big in the MMA scene, while trying to keep his relationship with Jamie a secret; but really wanting to tell everyone. He goes back and forth on that. Jamie's struggle revolves around coming to grips with the fact he loves a man, questioning his slightly masochistic needs, and keeping the relationship secret for Kage's benefit, but also his own. It is quite a compelling listen.J.F. Harding puts in a masterful performance of both these characters. Again, if you liked Paul Morey's performance of Sam Kage, you will really enjoys Mr. Harding's performance. His characterization of Kage and Jamie, in addition to all the supporting voices, is right on point and he really brought this story to life. Highly recommend.
Do you know when you wait and wait for a book to come out and once you get your hot little hands on it, all life outside the book cease to exist? When you are so deep into it that you forget to eat or sleep or shower? When people try to engage you in conversation and all you can do is growl and give them the evil eye?THIS IS THAT BOOK!I can't express how much I loved this it. It was everything the first two were and so much more.Kage Unmasked is written using both MC's point of view. You get to see what sweet sexy Jamie and hot hunky Kage are thinking and feeling.This just makes this book so much more fascinating and gripping.There are moments were I was giggling to myself, my heart was breaking and some intense "oh crap" moments.Yep this book has a little bit of everything in it.I don't do spoilers but I will say you are in for one hell of a roller coaster ride.I love the book, in fact this has become my favourite series and it is one I will love reading over and over.Maris Black you have done it again!!!If you haven't read this series do your a favour and go get it.You will not be sorry!
There are MMA fighters. There are thugs. There are two guys who have a thing for rough sex. Of course this book is....intense!I loved this book; I loved this series. I was on the edge of my seat at times. My jaw was hanging open at times and yes, I literally gasped in the silence of my own living room. Jamie is indeed the naive person Kage has claimed he was. Kage is indeed the dangerous fighter he has claimed to be. There are people around them who try to manipulate and orchestrate their lives and they do some damage. Kage has had a metric f-ton of sadness in his life and Jamie is the BEST thing he's ever had. And the people who messed Kage up aren't done yet.But Kage is a boss. He has lived for years with a ruthless psychopath. He's had to learn a trick or two. And Kage, as a fighter, has the instinct to 'see' what his opponent's move is going to be and to know what he has to do as a counter-move. That works for him in the octagon and it works for him in life. Honestly don't have enough words to describe how much I loved these characters, these plots, these twists, these everything!
I have now read all three books in Ms Black's Kage trilogy. In my opinion they were well written, full of ironic twists which are sometimes to be predicted but remain useful, nonetheless. Some might find that the exploration of the "inner life" of the characters slows the pace of the books but in my opinion it is this very quality that lifts this and the other volumes above the other books in the M/M genre.. Yes, there is plenty of explicit sexual content but it is the emotional dimensions which lift her characters above the ordinary. The responses and reaction are oft times insightful, wrought with tension, and at other times amusing. Ms Black has a wonderful gift with expressive metaphors which often encapsulate the situation perfectly. I would definitely recommend the third book in the trilogy as behind a respectable conclusion to the saga of Kage, the Machine.
